Bra Sizing

Most modern maternity wear ranges use innovative fabrics and fit systems to ensure that they can be worn right from week 1 to week 40, and often after the birth too.

It is normal to increase 1-2 cup sizes in the bust and ribs, and to put on weight in the hip and thigh area. Maternity clothes are designed to accommodate this growth, so in most cases you can stick to your normal pre-pregnancy size. You can use the size chart below to get a better feel for what size you currently are, and the variations between our brands. If you find you fall between two sizes, we recommend opting for the larger size.

To measure Bust:

Measure around the fullest part of your breasts, usually straight across the nipples.

To measure Hip:

Measure around the fullest part of your hips, just below your belly.

Bras

By now you will have noticed that it's not just your belly that is affected by your pregnancy. From the first moment of conception your pregnancy hormones will cause your breasts to change. Blood flow to your breasts increases and your milk glands swell and grow, leaving you feeling swollen and sore! You may also begin 'leaking' Colostrum as early as weeks 18-20.

Nursing bras are specially designed for use during pregnancy and while breast-feeding. They are able to adjust to changes in your breasts and diaphragm size and provide extra support to ease discomfort and minimise stretching and sagging.

Usual features of nursing bras:

- Seven rows of hooks and eyes for month by month expansion
- Drop cups for breast-feeding
- Wire free
- Soft seams and soft cotton lining
- Wide elastic below breasts for extra support
- Pockets for holding nursing pads against nipples
- Durable materials and manufacture to allow for frequent washing

Bra Fitting Tips
  • - When fitted in the early stages of pregnancy your bra should fit well on the tightest hook and eye to allow for expansion.
  • - When fitted in the early stages of pregnancy the top of the cup should allow for extra breast growth - try sliding your hand into the cup. The lower cup should fit well, and provide support.
  • - Have regular fittings throughout your pregnancy as all women will experience unique changes.
  • - Once milk production begins you will find you need several maternity or nursing bras, as leakage requires frequent washing.
  • - Don't try to grin and bear it, if your breasts have grown, buy a new bra. It is essential that you have firm, comfortable support throughout your pregnancy.
  • - Hand wash your bras if possible and avoid tumble dryers as these can damage elastic and stitching.
